Nia (Howard) and Logan Weston

Nia and Logan Weston became friends after they were assigned as chemistry-lab partners during Logan’s freshman year at Howard University. Nia was a Howard senior. She completed her bachelor’s degree and returned to Howard for graduate study before Logan resumed his education in 2027. Their friendship included concise, practical support during Logan’s low-blood-sugar episodes and his later return to campus after the December 2025 collision.

Nia was distinct from both the teenager Logan met on his spring-2024 cruise and Nia Coleman.

Friendship at Howard

Nia met seventeen-year-old Logan in fall 2025. She initially reacted with surprise to his age and joked about adopting him as a mentee after seeing his academic ability: “I’m adopting you. You want a mentor? You got one now.”

When Logan nearly collapsed after skipping food, Nia asked when he had last eaten and gave him a granola bar. At the end of his first week, she texted him, suggested that they both take a day off, and brought sandwiches and a Studio Ghibli film to his dorm. She reminded him that he could rest when he tried to return to his reading packet. The next day, she took him to a café near campus, told him she was checking on him because she wanted to, and made plans for pancakes the following weekend.

During another low in an organic-chemistry review, Nia directed Logan to sit and drink juice. She later carried snacks and juice, helping without taking on a clinical role or requiring him to explain more than the situation demanded.

Logan’s Return

When Logan returned to Howard after the collision, Nia was a graduate student. She sat beside him in a lecture hall and placed a protein bar on his desk without comment. When Logan thanked her for not repeatedly checking whether he would show up, she answered, “Didn’t need to. I knew you’d come,” and said she would have wheeled him in herself if necessary. The exchange continued the practical support she had offered before his medical leave.
